Falling Walls Lab Taiwan 2026: Innovative Ideas in Three Minutes
On 27 August 2026, Falling Walls Lab Taiwan 2026 took place at the German Institute Taipei. The event was jointly organised by the German Institute Taipei, the DAAD, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), and TU Dresden.
Since August 2026, Dr. Alexander Kunz has headed the DAAD Information Center Taipei. The geoscientist has lived and worked in Taiwan for 15 years and has first-hand knowledge of Taiwan’s higher education and research landscape.

Number of international students well over 400,000
The number of international students at German universities has risen again in the current winter semester. According to a snapshot survey DAAD, around 420,000 international students and doctoral candidates are currently enrolled at German universities. According to the survey, many universities are also noticing increased interest from abroad in Germany as a place to study and conduct research, particularly from the United States. In addition, almost half of the universities surveyed expect to further expand their English-language courses in the coming year. A total of 212 universities from all over Germany took part in the survey.
The 2025 European Education Fair Taiwan (EEFT) Successfully Concludes
The 22nd European Education Fair Taiwan (EEFT) successfully concluded on November 9, 2025. The fair brought together 82 higher education institutions from 12 European countries and served as an important platform for promoting European higher education in Taiwan. Through a wide range of seminars and one-on-one consultations, visitors gained first-hand insights into study opportunities in Europe and received practical guidance for their academic and professional development.

The DAAD sees the new government's coalition agreement as providing forward-looking impetus for international academic exchange and further enhancing Germany's attractiveness as a centre of higher education in the global competition.
