New Head of the DAAD Information Center Taipei
After completing his doctorate in Germany, Kunz came to National Taiwan University as a postdoctoral researcher in 2011. He later worked as a researcher at both National Taiwan University and Academia Sinica, where he also led his own research projects funded by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). Through these many years of experience, he is very familiar with Taiwan’s research system and academic environment.
“After many years of conducting research in Taiwan, I am looking forward to bringing my experience to this new role from a different perspective and to actively contributing to academic and scientific exchange between Germany and Taiwan,” Kunz says of his new position.
Beyond his academic work, he is also actively involved in science communication and in presenting Taiwan-related topics to a wider audience. For Radio Taiwan International, he hosts the German-language programme Wissenschaft Made in Taiwan, which introduces researchers based in Taiwan and their projects. Through his project Taiwan Maps and Dataviz, he also presents data and information about Taiwan visually for a broader international audience.
As Head of the DAAD Information Center Taipei, Alexander Kunz will provide information on study and research opportunities in Germany, maintain dialogue with Taiwanese universities and research institutions, and support German-Taiwanese higher education cooperation on the ground.
“I am particularly looking forward to meeting many universities, researchers and partner organisations across Taiwan in person over the coming months and to further strengthening existing networks.”
